The Translation Process

Our DIRECT project management system is used to guide the translation process

Arrival of Project

Office Staff
Acknowledge translation request, communicate project number and proposed timeline to client, and identify contact person
Review document for ambiguities, missing sections, illegible text, and unusual vocabulary; clarify initial questions
Determine usability of prior translations
Assign terminologist for glossary preparation if necessary
Determine program, version, operating system, graphics and fonts for inbound file
Map document for later typesetting if required
Select translation team based on topic and level of text

Translation and Editing

Office Staff
Provide translation team with all necessary materials
Track progress of project
Provide progress reports to client
Obtain answers for translation team
Schedule typesetter and/or printer

Translation Team
Provide progress reports to office
Assemble questions for client
Send project from translator to editor in sections
Return suggestions from editor to translator
Make final adjustments

Return to Office

Proofread and perform QA check
Double-check alignment with mapping before typesetting
Send to typesetter or verify final formatting
Perform final QA check
Prepare PDF and fonts for client if necessary

Delivery

Ship to client in preferred format, including PDFs and fonts if required
Verify receipt of project and answer final questions

Close Project

Archive all files and customer preferences for possible later revisions
Update translation memories
