Machine Translation and Translation Memories

Our clientele requires a professional level of translation that currently cannot be provided by machine translation. A simple one-to-one correspondence of vocabulary items in two languages is the perfect job for computer software. But untangling complicated syntax, choosing the correct synonym, and identifying cultural context while tracking the growth of a living language is a very complex task indeed.

The foreign language pages of most websites are static translations produced by human translators. Although recent years have seen substantial progress, machine translation that yields results equal to those of a professional translator is still some time in the future.

We track progress in the industry in order to offer our clients the best possible product. The state-of-the-art software tools we currently use are called translation memories (TM). Large products submitted electronically are stored along with their translations within the TM so that blocks of text previously translated for that client can be identified and reused. We are also able to import existing translations into this software under certain conditions. This assures consistency and may allow us to offer a discount for services.
